VIDEO 052. ELISABETTA FORADORI PART.2

April 25. 2012

Elisabetta Foradori’s new wines Morei and Sgarzon show once again the great potential of the rare grape Teroldego. On the way to give her wines even more individuality, character, quality and soul – she mad a huge step forward. In the course of 2011, she will launch her first amphora-made vineyard wines: the two “Teroldego-Crus” Morei and Sgarzon from the shallow Campo Rotaliano near Mezzolombardo, and the white wines Manzoni Bianco and Nosiola from the Fontanasanta vineyard in the hills above Trento.

FEATURED WINES

Manzoni bianco 2010. Foradori

Country: Italy
Wine region: Trentino
Vintage: 2010
Classification: I.G.P. Vigneti delle Dolomiti
Variety: Manzoni bianco

FORADORI
FONTANASANTA MANZONI BIANCO

Manzoni bianco is a cross between Riesling and Pinot bianco. Rusty and light golden-colored. Beautiful and very different from many mainstream-bling-bling-wines. Its blossoms, although it´s young. It leaves you with impressions of flowers, white peaches and tasty pears (not from the supermarket, I’m talking about the pears you usually can find in your grandmother´s garden). Interwoven with herbs and shows great complexity. On the palate it exhibits stunning spicy notes and caramel. Juicy. Amazing and refreshing acidity. Good finish. Best now (at 15°C) through 2020.

Wine region: Trentino
Vintage: 2010
Classification: I.G.P. Vigneti delle Dolomiti
Variety: Nosiola

FORADORI
FONTANASANTA NOSIOLA

Made from the local grape called Nosiola. The wine is more laid-back than the Manzoni bianco 2010, but reveals exceptional aromas of flowers, white peaches and ripe pears (not from the supermarket, I’m talking about the pears you usually can find in your grandmother´s garden). Impact of honey melons and herbs. An incredible and pure salinity strikes your palate. Very good acidity and you should try this wine with coniglio con polenta. Intense and long finish. Amphora-wine. Best now through 2022.

Sgarzon 2010. Foradori

Country: Italy
Wine region: Trentino
Vintage: 2010
Cru: Sgarzon
Classification: I.G.P. Vigneti delle Dolomiti
Variety: Teroldego

FORADORI
SGARZON

The second vintage from Elisabetta´s amphora-wines. Sgarzon is a single vineyard wine, which is more cooler and sandier than the single vineyard wine Morei. Brilliant garnet-colored (sun-glasses recommended!). Unbelievable fresh with lots of cool aromas of red and dark berries, cherries, herbs and mediterranean macchia. It gets very dynamic on the palate. Medium-bodied. Expressive with a refreshing acidity and very fine tannins. It flows like the nearby river Noce and changes towards the Niagara Falls. No wood and pure Teroldego. Still young and needs definitely its to balance. The finish is impressive. Best from 2014 through 2025.

Vintage: 2010
Cru: Morei
Classification: I.G.P. Vigneti delle Dolomiti
Variety: Teroldego

FORADORI
MOREI

The second vintage from Elisabetta´s amphora-wines. Morei is a single vineyard wine from vines, which have an average age of 30 years. The vineyard is protected by the nearby vertical mountains and is warmer than the single vineyard Sgarzon. The color is deep garnet. It blossoms and is more masculine than its „counterpart“ Sgarzon. Great aromas of wild cherries, red currants, mulberries and many spices. Hints of mocha. Very silky with great muscles (not like Hulk Holgan, I’m talking about Bruce Lee) and stunning juiciness. Medium-bodied. Balanced acidity and fine but still young tannins. Impressive length. Revolutionary! Best from 2014 through 2028.

FORADORI

Garnet-colored. You get struck by an impact of cherries (picked in May) and beautiful aromas of sour cherries. Intermixed with rosemary, thyme and decent hints of mocha and chocolate. Juvenile, fresh and juicy. Medium-bodied and stuffed with a great intensity of red berries. Balanced acidity and supple tannins. You think this one is the entry-wine of the winery? Forget it! Excellent quality with a good finish. Best now through 2018.

FORADORI
GRANATO

This wine is special. Deep garnet-colored. Bold and very burgundy-like. Shows great aromas of wild cherries, red and dark berries and superb hints of mocha and dark chocolate. Dense to the core. Balanced acidity with very high-quality tannins. Medium-bodied. It leaves you with great expressions of Teroldego characteristics like velvet and silky mouth-feel. Good stuffing with many hints of rosemary, thyme and sage. Full of live and a very good finish. Good job, Elisabetta. Best from 2014 through 2026.
