VIDEO 080. TENUTA DI GHIZZANO

September 10. 2013

When Ginevra’s father, Pierfrancesco Pesciolini, launched his first self-bottled wine in 1985, the Veneroso, this was the logical consequence of the fact that the demand for wines shipped in barrels from the Colli Pisani region fell literally down the stream and many winegrowers had to throw their towel. Of course, before the first filling, the family had invested heavily in cellars and vineyards to increase the quality.

The road to international recognition was stony and long, and when Ginevra entered the family business in nineties, her motto was: small, but particularly fine. She switched to natural cultivation and brought the wines to a next level. In the meantime the vineyard had been certified and Tenuta di Ghizzano is today a member of the association Agricoltura Vivende. That Robert Parker declared the winery as an secret was actually not surprising.

In this video Ginevra Pesciolini is talking with Piero about her history an the two flagship wines Veneroso and Nambrot, Ginevras Petrus as she always says smiling.

TENUTA DI GHIZZANO
VENEROSO

Brilliant garnet-red colored and transparent. The percentage of Sangiovese is predominant and develops a fabulous finesse and expressivity. Aromas of red cherries, roses, licorice, leather and tobacco are flooding the nose. Expanding with an enormous power on the palate. It offers an approachable sweetness and juiciness. Fine tannins and a tremendous acidity. Beautiful mocha and dark chocolate at the end. This is definitive not a fat boy, but rather well structured. Drink now through 2022.

NAMBROT

Dark garnet-red colored. This Nambrot jumps out of the glass and reveals an incredible combo of dark cherries, cassis, leather and mediterranean herbs. Profound and complex meditation. It exhibits soft and silky fruit on the palate. Really intensive with a great structure. Tight body and crisp tannins with a harmonious and refreshing acidity. Delicious aromas of roasted nuts and dark chocolate. Very long and expressive finish. Outstanding, Ginevra. Best now through 2030+.
